What does it mean to be a slave to sin?

Spread the love

Have you ever thought about what it means to be a slave to sin? When we sin – when we accept the lies of our spiritual enemy and allow satan and his crew to influence our thoughts, decisions, and actions in any way that is not in alignment of what God wants for us, we put ourselves in a position that leaves us susceptible to further enemy attack. Sin prevents our full armor of God from being properly fitted, which makes us more susceptible to enemy attack. It makes us more susceptible to those lies from the enemy because he (or they) already have their foot in the door. As a result, we get trapped in a vicious cycle and we can be blinded by it. Believing one lie opens the door to another, and so on. The spiritual torment that can follow is destructive.

For example, if you give in to the temptation to worry about that major stressor, then you may begin to believe that God doesn’t care about you like He does others, that you’ve messed up too much for God to ever do anything good for you. If you believe that, you may be more likely to dig yourself in a deeper hole by trying to fix things on your own. Over time, the stress and anxiety that are ]related to trying to do it all on your own can lead to physical and emotional illness. When you are physically and emotionally ill, you are more susceptible to those lies and negative thoughts from the enemy. It quickly becomes a downward spiral, right?

BUT there is good news!!

Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—

Our OLD SELF was crucified! We don’t have to own the consequences of our sinful thinking and behaviors. That’s not who we are. Our old self was covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, that we could become new creations – freed from bondage to sin, free from the torment of the enemy. There WILL be times the enemy will try to torment. The enemy will lie to you and tell you that you’ve made too many mistakes, mistakes that are too big, that you’re not loved by God like others are – anything to strike whatever raw nerve you may have lingering and open the door to gain a foothold. The enemy wants to get you to live in bondage, believing that you aren’t free when, if you have repented and accepted Christ as you Lord and Savior, you are. Put on your armor, stand your ground, and remind the enemy that you are covered by the precious, Holy blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are not a slave to sin, you are a victorious child of the King!
