It was like stepping on a LEGO at 2 AM.

Spread the love

A couple of years ago, I was looking for some shoes and was having trouble finding the style I wanted. I wanted just a simple ballet flat style shoe I could just slip on.

For the sake of convenience, I found a couple of pairs on Amazon, in two different colors and ordered them. They were cute and simple like I wanted.

Unfortunately, they were as cheaply made as they were cheap. They were thin.

Then one day, as I was walking in the parking lot of our local art gallery, I stepped on a stone, right in the middle of my left foot. I felt it. It hurt like a LEGO at 2:00 am.

I limped a bit but assumed it would be fine soon. Not long after that, we took a trip to the beach. After walking around in the beach sand for a day, I realized that my foot was not improving, it was getting worse. It hurt to stand up in the mornings.

I’d developed plantar fasciitis. It was months and months later, with gel sleeves, frozen water bottles, shoe inserts, a brace… before I finally felt like I was getting some real relief.

Those “cute” shoes went in the trash pretty quickly. They didn’t feel cute.

Scripture talks about our shoes being part of our spiritual armor.

Ephesians 6:15 “and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”

Did you know that Roman soldiers had spikes on the bottoms of their shoes? The spikes were handy in battle, to help the solder keep his footing and stand firm against the enemy.

Readying ourselves against the enemy – standing firm… we are able to do that because of the gospel of PEACE.

The gospel of peace tells us that we can cast our anxieties on God because He takes care of us.

Peter 5:6-8
“6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Be alert, stand firm, plant your feet in the gospel of peace. No matter what the enemy throws your way, you have been given spiritual armor and spiritual weapons for your protection. You’re covered! You are not alone. Just make sure you have the RIGHT shoes.

May you stand firm in peace, knowing that you are covered and He cares for you.

In Christ,
Keri

PS – Did you know I have a book for sale on the spiritual warfare behind anxiety and depression? It starts out with a clinical perspective, sharing tips and techniques I’ve helped my clients use over the years, but then it goes much deeper, into the unseen, spiritual world and how our spiritual enemy plays such a huge role.

Check out my books here to find Learning to Fear Not (Available in Kindle & Paperback, as well as a 90-day journal to help put the concepts into practice).
