Have you ever thought about the fact that God spoke the world into existence?
That’s a pretty powerful thought! Really, it is when you think about it. In Genesis 1:3, we read that God said, “let there be light,” and there was light. He just spoke the words, and the world existed. Just like that. That is so incredible to me! When you actually think about how powerful that word is when you look at the stories of Jesus, He healed the sick, He called forth Lazarus from the dead, He fought off the enemy- using His words.
In Proverbs 18:21, we read that the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
A question I have for you all tonight is; what food are you eating? Are you speaking life into your surroundings? Into your family, circumstances, or into yourself? Or, are you speaking death? Are you telling yourself things like, “oh, I know this is going to be another horrible day.” “Great. Now I’m probably going to have the flu.” What is it that you’re telling yourself?
Are you doing that or the opposite, and claiming God’s truth, speaking life into the situations that you’re facing when you use God’s Word as your sword? When you’re speaking life into whatever you’re facing, it makes a huge difference.
One way to do that is to use breath prayers like we’ve been doing. You can use your favorite passages for affirmations. We have lots of articles and posts about using affirmations and breath prayers and all of that on the blog, so I really encourage you to look for that. Basically, though, instead of saying things like, “it’s going to be a horrible day,” you can say (or sing) things like, “this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” A huge difference! It changes your whole mindset and it’s like you’re setting yourself up for a good day instead of assuming it’s going to be the worst. Instead of saying that you’re going to catch the flu because everyone around you has had it, speak the truth instead from Psalm 91. Speak that over you/ over your life, and speak truth from that. The Lord is your refuge and your fortress. That’s not to say that you’re never to have bad things happen or you’re never going to get sick, but it makes a big difference. It makes a difference in how you look at the world around you makes a big difference in what your experiences are.
Words are powerful. Scripture is very clear on that. God spoke the world into existence, and that just goes to show how powerful the spoken word is. This week, I want to encourage each of you to find a passage or passages about the power of what you say, and share them in the group. I want to see what you guys come up with! I want to just remind each other how powerful those words are, not speaking things about ourselves that are there defeating, or that are against God’s truth about who we are and whose we are. We have to focus on what is good, true and pure. Just like scripture says that we need to do (Philippians 4:8).
Your breath prayer for this week is, “Lord, help me speak life.” I encourage you to speak life into everything you are facing this week, and share those passages, affirmations, and whatever you find in the group. I’d really like to encourage you to do that.
Again, the verse is, “the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Keep in mind what fruit you’re eating, and make sure you’re speaking life!
