Wellness Wednesday – Is Vitamin D really important?

This week, I came across this article on edocamerica.com about vitamin D.

I recently wrote to you with ideas about making it feel like spring during these gray winter days, and this goes along with that!

According to edocamerica, “Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate blood levels of calcium and phosphate which enable normal bone development and maintenance of bone density.  Without enough vitamin D, bones can become, thin and brittle, or deformed.  It prevents rickets in children, and osteomalacia (softening of the bones) in adults.  Together with calcium, it helps protect against osteoporosis (weakening of the bones) in older adults.”

It goes on to say that Vitamin D plays a part in other bodily processes, such as immune function and reducing inflammation.
