Patience goes out the window
Our schedules have been very “off” since the holiday break. We’re working to get back on schedule, but I can tell a difference in my boys’ behavior as we’re trying to adjust to the routine again. One of my boys was up a little after 5 this morning. He was exhausted this evening after going to Pre-school and playing hard outside (what a beautiful day it was for January!).
When these kiddos are tired, “patient” does not seem to exist in their vocabularies. When they want something, they want it right then. If they are told no, there’s an immediate reaction that is an instant reminder that yes, we have a self-centered human nature.
The more tired they are, the less they want to wait (and the more whining I hear). When I hear whining voices, I tell my dear, sweet children that they are going to have to use their big boy voices and speak respectfully to me if they want me to hear them.
When they are being patient, though? Oh, it’s so fantastic! When they are being patient, I know they trust me to do what they need (and maybe even what they want). They are much, much more likely to get their way.
When we are being impatient…. when we whine to God and complain about all of what we want or don’t have, I picture Him, as our Heavenly Father telling us, “Trust me, child. Be patient and show me that you trust me, and then we can talk about it.”
Maybe today God is telling you, “Just trust me, my child. Be still and trust me. I’ve got this.”
