It was either laugh, or cry…

2 Chronicles 20:15b

This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid of discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

This past weekend, we had some big storms with lots of rain. When we discovered that a shingle had been damaged and our roof was leaking, I laughed. Because… of course it was.

Have you ever been to the point that you had to either laugh or cry, and you might as well laugh? I think that was it. In the past several weeks, our hot water tank busted and flooded the kitchen while we were on vacation, ruining the kitchen floor. Our refrigerator went out (also leaking water on the kitchen floor), my car started leaking (and now my brakes are also shot), my oldest kiddo broke his arm, my websites were hacked four times before I could get everything cleaned up and secured… Ya’ll, this is for real. Not making anything up.

There was a time, in the not-so-distant past, when that leak would have prompted a full-on emotional breakdown.

BUT there is something different now. I finally see things differently. While some struggles we face are just part of life, there truly is a battle going on in the spiritual realm around us… one we are continually being drawn in to fight. The enemy is sneaky and wants to manipulate, abuse, and torment us.

You may remember a blog post a while back where I shared a prayer for when you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

That post was born from a pretty significant moment for me. I WAS getting discouraged, and it was a moment when the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and reminded me that no weapon formed against me would prosper… that I had no reason to be discouraged. Don’t get me wrong, I have continued to have my struggles with discouragement, but I’m much more quick to fight against it rather than give into it.

The spiritual battle we face is not ours. It’s God’s. We can trust Him that He’s got it covered. We can trust that He has given us the weapons and authority to defend ourselves – we just need to employ them.

The amazing thing is that the more we use our weapons and assert our authority in the name of Jesus Christ, the easier it becomes.

Friends – do not be afraid or discouraged. Those weapons formed against you will not prosper when you are standing firm in your spiritual armor, claiming the authority given to you as a Daughter of the King through the blood of Jesus.

No matter how big the army seems – our God is bigger.
