One of my favorite Psalms is Psalm 91. Not only is the imagery used in it just incredible, but it’s also rich with promise and comfort.
If you listen to me long, you’ll hear me talk about “God’s umbrella of protection.” When we align ourselves with Him, we are protected from the spiritual elements. Psalm 91 illustrates that same concept by telling us we will rest in the shadow of the Almighty when we dwell in the shelter of the Most High.
We’re protected.
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
Here’s a prayer for your War Room journal:
PRAYER:
“Heavenly Father, Your word says that whoever dwells in Your shelter will rest in Your shadow, Almighty. I will say of You, “You are my refuge and my fortress! My God, in whom I trust!”
Surely you will save me from the enemy’s snare, from diseases. You will cover me with your feathers and let me find rest under your wings. Your faithfulness will be my shield and rampart!
I have no reason to fear the terror of night or arrows of the enemy by day. I have no reason to fear the disease that stalks in the darkness or the pandemic surrounding us.
People may be affected all around me, but let it not come near me. Keep my eyes focused on You, Lord!
You are my refuge! I make You, Most High, my dwelling and choose to dwell on Your truth, righteousness, and faithfulness, rather than the lies of the enemy. No harm will overtake me! No disaster will come near my tent! Thank you for commanding your angels concerning me, to guard me and my household in all we do.
Thank you for having them protect us from dangers and enemies. I love you, Lord. Rescue me. Protect me. I acknowledge Your name. I call on you and trust you to answer me. I trust you to be with me in trouble. Thank you for delivering me and honoring me. Thank you for long life, satisfaction, and above all, salvation. In Jesus Precious, Holy name I pray, Amen.”
May you rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
In Christ,
Keri
