How being thankful can actually benefit your overall health

After writing out a check for my monthly Samaritan Ministries share*, I was reading this month’s newsletter and my eyes immediately were drawn to an article about how gratitude is beneficial to our brains. Once again, I am reminded just how practical God’s word  really is!  There’s a very practical purpose in God’s commands to give thanks “in every thing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18  (KJV)
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

“Among those who are more spiritual, religious thankfulness, or gratitude toward God, can predict susceptibility to mental illness. In a 2003 study involving 2600 adults, those who were most spiritually thankful had a lower risk of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, bulimia and addictions including alcohol, nicotine and illegal drugs.”

The above is a quote taken from an article at Time Magazine about the benefits of gratitude. Check out the article for more information about studies linking gratitude to health benefits!
